Jobs PSCraft handles
- Opening a PSD from a client or colleague and exporting PNGs or JPEGs from it.
- Quick retouching, cropping and colour correction.
- Simple composites and graphics for the web or social media.
- Teaching and learning how layers and masks work.
- Editing on a computer where you can't install software.
Jobs that still need Photoshop
- Generative Fill, Generative Expand and the neural filters.
- Workflows that depend on third-party plug-ins.
- Typography-heavy design, since the browser build has only two fonts.
- Cloud documents and shared libraries across a team.
- Anything where a file must behave identically in every corner of Photoshop.
Using both
Plenty of people keep Photoshop on their main machine and use PSCraft everywhere else: on a laptop that isn't theirs, on a Chromebook, or to check a file without waiting for an application to launch. PSD is the bridge between the two.
About the name
PSCraft is an independent project with no connection to Adobe. It runs PhotoCraft, an open-source editor, and exists to make that editor easy to reach.
